How Should Coaches be Used in Schools?

Guidance on maximising the impact of coaches in primary schools

UK Coaching and our national partners believe that coaches working in schools can offer a range of potential benefits to school staff and the wider school community.

In Spring 2014 Sport England asked the Youth Sport Trust, association for Physical Education, County Sports Partnership Network, Compass and UK Coaching (formerly Sports Coach UK) to develop two posters to help head teachers and other staff maximise the impact of coaches in primary schools.

  • How can effective professional learning maximise the Primary PE and Sport Premium?
  • How the employment and deployment of coaches can help you maximise the Primary PE and Sport Premium

The two essential resources can be downloaded below.

They will answer all your questions on coaching provision in schools, providing detailed guidance on subject areas that include:

  • How can coaches support your school’s PE and school sport offer?
  • Recommedations for working with coaches in your school
  • The key objectives of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding
  • The professional learning model explained and the impact this can have on teaching and learning, and on specific pupil outcomes
