Checklist for Emotional Regulation

Even with a strong understanding of your emotions, it’s important to analyse them regularly. Use this checklist to reflect on situations and your emotional response

Recall a situation in your coaching (it could be during practice, meetings, or competition) that stimulated a strong emotion. Work through the questions and, if it would help, jot down your answers for future reference.

  1. What led to the situation?
  2. How did you interpret the situation?
  3. How intense were your emotions (say on a scale of 0-100)?
  4. Did your emotions influence other people's actions and behaviours? If yes, how?
  5. Did your emotions influence your actions? If yes, how?
  6. Did your emotions influence your judgement? If yes, how?
